Joe Carbonaro Represents Child Victims Act Sexual Abuse Cases

On February 2019, New York joined the growing number of states extending the statute of limitations for filing lawsuits for sexual abuse. The statute of limitations extension opens the door for adult victims of sexual abuse to finally seek justice against attackers and peace of mind, after suffering years of silence.

Most importantly, this law provides for a one-year “window” of time for victims of child sexual abuse to pursue civil claims, even if the case was previously time-barred by the statute of limitations. The law is effective as of August 14, 2019, and survivors must pursue their case before August 14, 2020 when the window will close.

Because of the “window”, the time to act is now. We are predicting thousands of cases to be brought forward over this next year, and once the window closes you may be precluded from bringing your case.
